While it seems like Focus on the Family Radio Theatre is going through a long hiatus at the moment, fans of high quality audio drama still have much to be thankful for. Lamplighter Theatre has recently released two new audio productions, The Haunted Room and A 'Strordinary Maid. And now Heirloom Audio Productions have announced the title of their seventh audio drama. So far they've produced Under Drake's Flag, In Freedom's Cause, With Lee in Virginia, The Dragon and the Raven, Beric the Briton, and The Cat of Bubastes. The next in the Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty series will be a thrilling tale called In the Reign of Terror. Here's the story's summary: Return to the tumultuous days of the French Revolution with this captivating tale of adventure and courage. Join Harry Sandwith, a young Englishman, as he accepts a job as a companion to the sons of a French marquis. Follow Harry and his aristocratic friends as they're swept from their idyllic life at a country estate to the riotous streets of Paris and the very gates of the Bastille. Can Harry rescue the marquis' family from imprisonment and certain death at the hands of the merciless mob? In the Reign of Terror is currently scheduled to be released this October.
Adventures in Odyssey's most recent album release, Album 61: Without a Hitch, is now available to listen to via digital download on Amazon for $6.23. It's $9.99 from iTunes and FOTF. You can also preorder the CD set from Christian Book Distributors, which releases in October. And of course, all the episodes have already been available for streaming on the Odyssey Adventure Club for some time now. The album contains six episodes, including stories about a decades-old family feud, another appearance from Buck Oliver, a new Jones and Parker mystery, Wooton and Penny's chaotic journey to the altar, and more. The Album 61 digital download also features a bonus track called Behind the Scenes of A Very Bassett Wedding. And coming up will be Album 62: Let's Put on a Show!, which releases on CD in March. On this week's edition of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast, executive producer Dave Arnold and former writer, director and producer Paul McCusker host a tribute show where they remember the voices of Jack and Joanne Allen, actors Alan Young and Janet Waldo, who both recently passed away. Voting for the AIO Update's twentieth poll question has now closed and the final results are ready to be revealed. Adventures in Odyssey fans were asked what their favorite science fiction episode was, and in first place came Drake the Cosmic Copper with a third of the votes cast. Tied for second place were the two classic shows Terror from the Skies and Gloobers. Drake the Cosmic Copper is the most recent science fiction episode to be released, and only Odyssey Adventure Club members have heard it. Nevertheless, the fans who have listened to this club-exclusive episode thought it deserved the top spot in this recent poll. The story features Wooton Bassett sharing a wacky new comic book set 100,000 years in the future where a detective and his robot assistant investigate a mysterious group of aliens. The detective, named Drake, is played by Townsend Coleman, better known to AIO fans as the voice of Jason Whittaker. Check out the podcast interview. This week the AIO team began the recording process of Season 4 of the Odyssey Adventure Club, which will air in 2017. This time around two actors returned to the studio after a long hiatus, Kendre Berry and Adam Wylie. Kendre, the voice of Marvin Washington, hasn't been on the show since A Class Reenactment on Album 50, which aired in 2008. Adam was last heard in the 2012 episode The Holy Hoopster on Album 56. The characters Marvin and Ryan will appear together in a new episode called Unfair Game, written by Marshal Younger. The show is set in the Philippines and features Jason Whittaker doing his best to take on the role of a basketball coach. The cast and crew also recorded the three-part episode In Jars of Clay, a historical drama set during WWII and highlighting the heroism of Irena Sendler, who rescued Jews from the Warsaw ghetto. And finally, they recorded the two-part episode Swept Away, a story about a potential major disaster in Odyssey. It features the return of Mayor Spencer Hicks, last heard in The Mystery of the Clock Tower on Album 52, as well as reporter Ted Humphries, his first appearance since A Penny Saved on Album 54. Swept Away's cast includes Mrs. Kramer, Eugene, Wooton, Penny, Connie, Whit, and host Chris Anthony's daughter Kelsey playing an unknown character.
