The Adventures in Odyssey cast and crew were in California this week to finish up recording episodes for Season Four of the Odyssey Adventure Club, which will air in 2017. We learned that Whit's End intern Renee Carter will appear in at least two episodes: Angels in Horsehair, as well as The Legend of Sperry McGerk, an Imagination Station adventure back to Odyssey's history during the time of the Civil War. Besides Sperry McGerk, the cast includes a Confederate general, an escaped slave, and the mayor of Odyssey. Camilla and Matthew Parker, Buddy Norman, and a dinosaur hunter named Reginald Bone will appear in an episode called A Perfect Testimony, written by a new writer, Sam Suksiri. The team also recorded the multi-part episode There and Back Again, where Whit and Jason travel to New Zealand and run into a mystery that must be solved and family ties that must be mended. The show will include Nick Smouse, Jay Smouse's father, who works as a scientist. When questioned whether Jay Smouse himself would be returning for this episode as well, the AIO Facebook page simply replied with a smiling emoji, and hinted that a mysterious actor traveling from London would be in the episode. And of course, we know that Whit Hertford, who plays Jay, recently moved to London, so it's fair to assume Jay Smouse will indeed be making an appearance. We last heard from Jay in the OAC episode Take It on Trust, but his last time on a regular album outside of the club was on Album 58. It was also mentioned that the upcoming two-part musical called Legacy, which will be included on Album 62, will not only feature Jules Kendall, but also "a singing Buck Oliver." You can check out the AIO Facebook page for plenty of photos and videos from this latest batch of newly recorded episodes. The Focus on the Family team is working on a brand new book series for Adventures in Odyssey fans called The Blackgaard Chronicles. Thanks to Austin Peachey of the AIO Blog for bringing this news to our attention. Although Dr. Regis Blackgaard has long been dead, his appearances on AIO are still some of people's most memorable episodes to this day. And now with this book series readers will get the chance to experience those same adventures in a new medium. According to Clubhouse Magazine, with these books we will be able to finally "relive those classic battles between good and evil in book form—with fresh insights and special scenes that didn't appear in the audio dramas." The series is being written by the creators of Adventures in Odyssey and will be available first to Odyssey Adventure Club members starting in November, before the books begin releasing to the general public at a later date. On this week's edition of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast, hosts Bob and Jesse interview writer and director Phil Lollar. They talk about how the team decides when it's time to introduce new characters to the show, the creation of Renee D. Carter, the interesting connection to the original Star Trek series, Renee's love of mathematics, and the inspiration from French philosopher René Descartes. Phil also discusses Renee's puppy, her skepticism of Christianity and spirituality, her Scottish accent, the actor behind her voice, and he gives a couple clues about the future of her character. Check out the podcast interview. The Adventures in Odyssey team will be back in the recording studio this week, starting Tuesday morning. So far we know writers/directors Nathan Hoobler and Phil Lollar will be in attendance, and host Chris Anthony will show up this week as well. It's very possible the cast and crew will resume where they left off last time, and continue recording new episodes for Season Four of the Odyssey Adventure Club. We also know that the character Renee D. Carter, voiced by Amy Pemberton, will be returning for this latest recording session. Renee will appear in a new episode that features her love for horses and animals in general. Also coming up this week, writer/director Phil Lollar will be interviewed on the next edition of the Official Podcast, and Album 61: Without a Hitch will finally air on the radio this Saturday with the first episode, The Feud of Mason County. Stay tuned for updates on all these stories and more in the days ahead. On today's edition of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast, hosts Bob and Jesse are interviewed by the hosts of Audio Theatre Central, JD, Roy and Andrew. They talk about how they first got involved with different Focus on the Family magazines, when they first started to listen to AIO, playing parts on Odyssey episodes, shows that have made them laugh and cry, and which characters resonate with them. Bob and Jesse also discuss how the Official Podcast first began ten years ago, their favorite podcast moments, what it's like watching the cast and crew record episodes in the studio, the Odyssey Adventure Club, their hobbies outside of work and more. Check out the podcast interview. On this week's edition of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast, hosts Bob and Jesse interview Stuart Allen, the voice of Leonard "Buddy" Norman in the new Odyssey Adventure Club episode A Predicament of Biblical Proportions. Stuart talks about how he decides whether or not to read all the way through a script ahead of time, a moment in recording studio where he was given direction, a challenging scene to do, and how he manages to keep his energy up. Stuart also discusses moving to California to start his acting career, experimenting with voices outside of his comfort zone, and gives us a sampling of some of the accents he can do. Plus we hear a clip from Stuart's episode, in which he plays Buddy, an awkward boy with an overactive imagination who moves to Odyssey and has his faith put to the test. Check out the podcast interview. The official CD release date for Album 61: Without a Hitch is coming up soon, so it's about time the back cover was revealed. As you can see from the list of episodes, this album's themes include the value of reading scripture, competition, integrity, secrets and marriage. This is the third time Wooton Bassett has appeared on the back cover of an album, the previous two being Albums 52 and 54. Have you ordered this new release on CD, or are you planning on listening to it when the episodes air on the radio? Or have you already heard them all via the Odyssey Adventure Club? However you listen these days, its always exciting for fans everywhere to see that new high-quality Adventures in Odyssey shows keep coming out. |
