Another Adventures in Odyssey Podcast has been released and in this episode they interview engineer Rudy Haerr. Rudy talks about his typical day at work, how he masters the finished AIO episodes into their final format, how he puts together albums, how he came to the Odyssey team from a pig farm, how he transitioned to working in audio drama, and he also talks about his multi-year library project converting every version of every Odyssey show on reel-to-reel tapes to digital versions. He tells us how many episodes his voice has appeared on, and gives us an inside scoop of what it's like recording in the Foley room. Plus, hear about the prizes in the upcoming A.C.T.S. contest! Listen here.
A new Social Shout Out video featuring Brock Eastman and Evan Reedall was released today. In this edition they talk about the writers planning Album 58, celebrate St. Patrick's Day, promote Imagination Station Book 10: Challenge on the Hill of Fire, mention the winners from the last week of the Love it, Wear it contest and they explain where you can go to still get Adventures in Odyssey gear of your very own. Watch the video below. Adventures in Odyssey has had its share of bad guys over the years and we've all had discussions about who we like better, Dr. Blackgaard or the Chairman, or Mr. Grote or Mr. Skint. But what about the villains Captain Absolutely has had to fight over the years? That's why we've created this latest poll to discuss just that. Who is your favorite nemesis of Wooton's popular comic book character Captain Absolutely? Could it be Dr. Relative, who was once a friend but turned into an enemy in Captain Absolutely's origin story? Or maybe it's the Unifier who tried to bring the world together as one, Thug Clockripper who wanted to create pointless entertainment, or even Lord Gargantuan Foulspleen who was on a mission to destroy truth, goodness and beauty. We have only included the four Captain Absolutely villains from the Adventures in Odyssey radio drama and not the villains from the Clubhouse Magazine comics because these four will be the most well-known and well-remembered as time goes on. Also, this website deals mostly with the AIO radio drama canon, not the additional stories in Focus on the Family's magazines. Cast your vote here. Our seventh poll question has now ended and the final results have all been counted. According to the poll, the most fans visiting this website have been listening to Adventures in Odyssey faithfully for 6-10 years. Others are newer fans, having listened between 1 and 5 years, and still others have been listening to AIO from the beginning, for 21-25 years. It's good to see that we have so many different groups represented here. Whether you've been listening to Adventures in Odyssey for 25 years or just started listening this year, we're glad we can all share together in our appreciation for this excellent Christian radio drama. We would like to thank everyone who took time to participate in this latest AIO poll. We will have a new poll question up very soon. You can send in your poll question suggestions here. If Album 57: A Call to Something More was airing this spring instead of this fall, its cover would have been released long ago. But since the album will be available for download in August, we're only getting our first look at Gary Locke's artwork now. It is unknown when the finished back cover design will be released online. The album has a yellow border, the first time this has happened since the Gold Audio Series. This new piece of artwork features Connie Kendall sitting on the floor, looking at a photo album and surrounded by things from her childhood, including a picture of her parents before they were divorced. This gives credibility to the rumor we reported on earlier about Connie's dad, Bill Kendall, possibly returning in this next album. It also points to the Connie storyline the producers have already told us would be coming in Album 57. This album's official summary has not been released. Why is Connie suddenly going through her old things? Has something tragic happened to one of her parents? We'll just have to wait and see what Album 57 brings. All we know now is that it has the theme of "trusting God in life." Click on the image to see it at a higher resolution. Update: A newer version of the artwork has been posted here. If you've been waiting for it then you'll be pleased to know that the AIO Update's 10th editorial has just been published online. You can read "A Most Intriguing Progression" at this link and then feel free to rate it out of 10 in order to provide us with your valuable feedback. In this next edition to our Editorials section we take a look at Eugene's Meltsner's journey as a character over the years and address the recent developments concerning the writers' decision not to allow the Meltsners to have children. You can read the full version here. If you want to read more opinions about Adventures in Odyssey you can check out our other nine editorials here. And if you like, you can also submit ideas for new editorials on our contact page. We would appreciate your insightful ideas of how we can improve the AIO Update. The Passages books, written by Adventures in Odyssey writer Paul McCusker, are being re-released into two large omni-books called the Marus Manuscripts, named after the world of Marus that these stories take place in. Volume 1's cover was released last November and includes the first three books in the Passages series. Its cover is brown and frames a picture of Darien’s Rise, the very first book. Volume 2 includes the last three books to complete the series and its cover is blue and frames a picture of Fendar’s Legacy, the last book to date. Interestingly, this is the first time the Passages books will not be branded with an Adventures in Odyssey logo, despite the fact that the characters John Avery Whittaker and Jack Allen appear in the books. Volume 1 will be available for purchase in stores in May and Volume 2 will be released in August, the same month as Album 57: A Call to Something More. It appears there will be a follow up contest to the Get in the Show contest from last year coming soon. A countdown has begun on Whitsend.org for the A.C.T.S. contest. Its slogan is "A Call to Serve," which ties nicely in with the title of Album 57: A Call to Something More. This next contest goes live in approximately 55 days, which is on the morning of May 1st. You can read the official preview of the contest below. You have a part to play in God’s larger story by serving your family, your community and even your world. You can even make a BIGGER impact by serving others with your family or church/community group. It’s time to do something BIGGER than yourself…and this summer, you could win BIG too! According to Whitsend.org there will be more winners this year and more prizes being offered. You can find some more details here.
In this episode of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast, Bob and Jesse interview Nancy Sanders, the author of several books in the Imagination Station series. She talks about how she decided to become a professional writer, working at Clubhouse Jr. Magazine, why she doesn't have a TV (like John Avery Whittaker), how she's now written over 80 books, what it's like writing historical fiction, difficulties she had writing Book 10: Challenge on the Hill of Fire, things she had to leave out of Saint Patrick's story, and finding a fresh angle on the Christmas story for Book 12: Danger on a Silent Night. She also gives aspiring writers advice, talks about her own writing habits and techniques, and how to get past writer's block. Listen here. The final cover for Book 11: Hunt for the Devil's Dragon in Adventures in Odyssey's Imagination Station book series has been released by Tyndale House. Previously, we had only ever seen the sketch for the book's front cover. Now that it has been completed by artist David Hohn we have it in full color. Hunt for the Devil's Dragon follows cousins Beth and Patrick to Libya in the 13th century where they find Sir George, also called Georgius, who is looking to kill a dragon that has been terrorizing the town of Silene. However, Georgius’s plans go awry when Beth begs him not to kill the dragon. The book is written by Marianne Hering and Wayne Thomas Batson. You can read the full summary here. It will be available for purchase at your local Christian bookstore in May. The next book in the series, Danger on a Silent Night, will be released this fall. We'll update you as more news comes out. |
